The lake in the form of a lagoon is con­nect­ed by a chan­nel to Ani­va Bay in the Sea of ​​Okhot­sk. This place is a store­house of nat­ur­al gifts. The lagoon received its name in hon­or of the first chief of Sakhalin Island, Niko­lai Busse. Dur­ing the years of Japan­ese occu­pa­tion it was called Tobuchi. The Busse Lagoon is sep­a­rat­ed from the sea by a sand spit, and they are con­nect­ed by the Suslov Pas­sage, so the water in the lagoon itself is brack­ish. Busse is a gas­tro­nom­ic par­adise for con­nois­seurs of fresh seafood. Dur­ing low tide, tourists and island res­i­dents col­lect a vari­ety of shell­fish here, and then arrange lux­u­ri­ous pic­nics in the fresh air from the catch.
