The moun­tain ris­es almost 700 meters above sea lev­el, so it is clear­ly vis­i­ble from many areas of the city. Black Hill is a for­mer vol­cano that went extinct sev­er­al mil­lion years ago. The ancient peo­ples who lived in the area revered the moun­tain, as did the Japan­ese pris­on­ers of war dur­ing World War II, who thought it was their native Fujiya­ma. There are many leg­ends that a trea­sure is buried some­where at the foot of Karatag, but no one has yet man­aged to find it. There is a path lead­ing to Black Hill, along which you can eas­i­ly climb to its top. One of the high­est moun­tains in the city’s vicin­i­ty.
