One of the old­est wom­en’s monas­ter­ies in the coun­try was built in 1678 and is locat­ed 70 kilo­me­ters from Chisin­au. Accord­ing to the leg­ends, it was found­ed by Mikhalcha Khynku, who hid here with his daugh­ter dur­ing the raids of the Tatar-Mon­­gols. The mirac­u­lous­ly saved boyar promised the child that he would erect a monastery on this ter­ri­to­ry.
