Lake Baunt is locat­ed in the Baun­tovsky dis­trict (Bury­a­tia). Lake Baunt hon­or­ably ranks third in the Repub­lic of Bury­a­tia in terms of water sur­face size; the area of the lake is 111 km². This lake is sec­ond in area only to Baikal and Gusi­noye. Locat­ed in the Baunt Basin, sur­round­ed on the north­ern side by the peaks of the South Muya Range, and on the south­ern side by the high and mighty Big Hap­ton Moun­tains.
