The new­ly built foun­tain in the cen­tral square sym­bol­izes an ancient leg­end, which no self-respec­t­ing city can do with­out. The names Polyud and Vet­lan are asso­ci­at­ed with myth­i­cal heroes who quar­reled over the beau­ti­ful girl Vishera, as a result of which both heroes turned into rocks, and the girl, out of grief, threw her­self between them and became a riv­er. It is curi­ous that in Cher­dyn, where there is a Polyu­dov trace on the bank of the Kol­va, this hero is con­sid­ered to have gone to sleep in a stone moun­tain, while the oth­er two char­ac­ters are unknown to the Cher­dyn res­i­dents, since they are sim­ply not vis­i­ble from there.
