A small, but charm­ing zoo about 20 min­utes from Down­town Anchor­age. Vis­i­tors can see ani­mals native to the North­ern cli­mates, such as Bald Eagles, Moose, Musk Oxen, Griz­zlies, and a Polar Bear. A few ani­mals have been res­cued from the wild after sus­tain­ing life-threat­en­ing injuries that would­n’t enable them to sur­vive on their own. Wednes­days fea­ture zoo sto­ry­telling and ani­mal encoun­ters. No pets, bal­loons, firearms or any kind of smok­ing on zoo grounds. Dur­ing the sum­mer, there is a free shut­tle that runs from down­town (4th Avenue and F Street) to the zoo and back.
