The forests of the reserve are the last uncut taiga mas­sif in the west­ern part of the Mid­dle Urals. Being a ref­er­ence object of nat­ur­al taiga ecosys­tems, the Base­gi ridge is of sig­nif­i­cant sci­en­tif­ic inter­est, because ref­er­ence nat­ur­al ecosys­tems give sci­en­tists a unique oppor­tu­ni­ty to study nat­ur­al process­es that are not dis­tort­ed by human influ­ence.
