Kro­not­sky State Nat­ur­al Bios­phere Reserve is one of the old­est nature reserves in Rus­sia. It was estab­lished as a state reserve in 1934 on the site of the Soboli­noy Nature Reserve that exist­ed since 1882. The Kro­not­sky State Nature Reserve is locat­ed in the east­ern part of the Kam­chat­ka Penin­su­la and cov­ers an area of 1,147,619.37 hectares, includ­ing 135,000 hectares (1,350 km²) of the adja­cent three-mile Pacif­ic Ocean.
