It was estab­lished to pro­tect the undis­turbed north­ern taiga Okhot­sk moun­tain land­scapes, as well as coastal ecosys­tems on the north­ern coast of the Sea of ​​Okhot­sk. The max­i­mum height is 1500 m. It includes 4 remote, hard-to-reach areas that dif­fer in relief, cli­mate, flo­ra and fau­na. The area of ​​the reserve is 8838 km². There are many small rivers, lakes and swamps in the reserve. More than half of the ter­ri­to­ry is cov­ered by forests. The main for­est-for­m­ing species is Dahuri­an larch.
