The stone cas­tle was found­ed in 1315 by order of Kom­tur Johannes von Win­nun­gen. The con­se­cra­tion took place in 1325 on the day of Saints Peter and Paul. The com­plex was locat­ed on a hill for­ti­fied with a retain­ing stone wall. In the mid­dle of the 15th cen­tu­ry, dur­ing the Thir­teen Years’ War of the Teu­ton­ic Order with Poland, the cas­tle build­ings were par­tial­ly destroyed. In the 19th cen­tu­ry, the ruins were sold to Baron von Romberg. In 1872, his son Max von Romberg demol­ished all the medieval build­ings of the for­burg, and in their place he built a res­i­den­tial build­ing. After World War II, the res­i­den­tial build­ing was demol­ished, and the for­mer car­riage house was adapt­ed for a vet­eri­nary clin­ic. In the ear­ly first half of the 90s of the last cen­tu­ry, the cas­tle was leased by an Armen­ian fam­i­ly, who attempt­ed to rebuild it into a hotel, but with­out suc­cess. Cul­tur­al her­itage site of region­al sig­nif­i­cance. What remains: a neo-Goth­ic gate with a frag­ment of a wall, ruins of the west­ern wing, a car­riage house, sta­bles, a grot­to.
