Abuko Nation­al Park is a pro­tect­ed area locat­ed south of the set­tle­ment of the same name. It is a pop­u­lar tourist attrac­tion and the first wildlife reserve in the coun­try. The area first gained pro­tect­ed area sta­tus in 1916 when the Lamin Creek, which flows through the reserve, was fenced off to con­tain and col­lect water. In con­nec­tion with the sta­bi­liza­tion of the stream, an increase in the num­ber of wild ani­mals and plants in the for­est was not­ed.
