The Boma Game Reserve is locat­ed in the east, near the Ethiopi­an bor­der. The pro­tect­ed area includes 22,800 km² of riv­er flood­plains and mead­ows. From Novem­ber to Jan­u­ary and from March to April, there is a large-scale migra­tion of wildlife due to the approach­ing rainy sea­son. African ele­phants, leop­ards, chee­tahs, giraffes, herds of gazelles and zebras live in the nation­al park. Birds include hawks, palm vul­tures, vul­tures, herons, storks, and par­rots.
