One of the old­est civ­il build­ings in Moscow. Built in 1487–1491 by order of Ivan III by Ital­ian archi­tects Mark Fryazin and Pietro Anto­nio Solari.

It is one of the rep­re­sen­ta­tive halls at the Res­i­dence of the Pres­i­dent of the Russ­ian Fed­er­a­tion. It hosts meet­ings of heads of state, award cer­e­monies and oth­er state events.

The build­ing has two floors. The upper floor is occu­pied by a square throne room with an area of ​​495 sq. m., cov­ered with four cross vaults rest­ing on the cen­tral pil­lar, the low­er floor is a base­ment. The Holy Vestibule adjoins the hall from the west.

The name of the cham­ber comes from the archi­tec­tur­al design of the main east­ern facade fac­ing Cathe­dral Square. It is faced with white stone blocks, each of which is hewn into four faces.
