Found­ed by Ger­man crafts­men and mer­chants known as the Sax­ons of Tran­syl­va­nia, Sighisoara is a fine exam­ple of a small, for­ti­fied medieval town which played an impor­tant strate­gic and com­mer­cial role on the fringes of cen­tral Europe for sev­er­al cen­turies.
