This mon­u­ment is ded­i­cat­ed to the 1862 Home­stead Act allow­ing set­tlers to free land in the Amer­i­can west pro­vid­ed that they main­tain and improve the land. The mon­u­ment was built at the first per­son­al claim under the Home­stead Act near Beat­rice, Nebras­ka. The site offers inter­pre­tive exhibits, a tall-grass prairie and a new her­itage cen­ter ded­i­cat­ed to the his­to­ry of the Home­stead Act.
