In addi­tion to their artis­tic inter­est, these mis­sions are a reminder of the Jesuits‘ Chris­tian­iza­tion of the Rio de la Pla­ta basin in the 17th and 18th cen­turies, with the accom­pa­ny­ing social and eco­nom­ic ini­tia­tives.
