The height of the pil­lar is about forty meters. At the top are two church­es. The first, of the fifth cen­tu­ry AD, was erect­ed in a “dry” way from the mate­r­i­al mined on the spot and rough­ly processed. Its apse is carved direct­ly into the rock. The sec­ond, of the sixth cen­tu­ry, was built of worked stone raised from the foot of the pil­lar.
