The cap­i­tal of the Tibet Autonomous Region of Chi­na, locat­ed at an alti­tude of approx­i­mate­ly 3,650 meters, is one of the high­est cities in the world and the spir­i­tu­al cen­ter of Tibetan Bud­dhism. Home to the Pota­la Palace, Jokhang Tem­ple, and Nor­bu­l­ing­ka Sum­mer Palace (UNESCO sites), as well as the major monas­ter­ies of Sera and Drepung, the city is a vital cul­tur­al and reli­gious hub for the region.
