The square is home to hun­dreds of giant Russ­ian nest­ing dolls. There are nest­ing dolls with the faces of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Nel­son Man­dela. A par­tic­u­lar­ly large red and yel­low nest­ing doll in the cen­ter of the square is almost 30 meters tall and is actu­al­ly a hotel. The square also fea­tures oth­er quirky build­ings paint­ed in bright col­ors rem­i­nis­cent of famous Russ­ian land­marks, and a Russ­ian cir­cus. In Manchuria, which is con­sid­ered a cross­roads of Chi­nese, Mon­go­lian, and Russ­ian cul­tures, the bor­der with Rus­sia is only a 15-minute dri­ve from the city cen­ter.
