Mel­nik is offi­cial­ly Bulgaria’s small­est town with its 385 inhab­i­tants.
The city is known for an array of beau­ti­ful­ly pre­served his­tor­i­cal hous­es, Bulgaria’s no. 1 wine, and unique rock for­ma­tions.
Those are so called Mel­nik pyra­mids. Cre­at­ed by ero­sion doing its work on sen­si­tive sand­stone and clay, unique cone-shaped for­ma­tions have sprung up near the town.
