Found­ed in 1870 by Manoel Pedro Guedes, Quin­ta da Avele­da has traces back even fur­ther. Indeed, the name is said to come from the Ger­­man-Celtic priest­esses (nick­named Veledas) who sought sanc­tu­ary in the spot where the Nos­sa Sen­ho­ra da Van­do­ma foun­tain stands in the grounds today. Now steered by the fifth gen­er­a­tion of Guedes, who still live in the state­ly manor house, this coun­try­side estate is a trea­sure trove just wait­ing to be dis­cov­ered, only half an hour from Por­to.
