Mount Sherkala (height 308 meters) is a large rem­nant of unusu­al shape that arose dur­ing the for­ma­tion of the Karatau moun­tain val­leys as a result of the rise of land from the depths of the sea. One of the resid­ual chalk moun­tains includ­ed in the Ak-tau chain. Ris­ing alone above a com­plete­ly smooth plain, it attracts atten­tion with its out­lines and dif­fers from oth­ers. Huge stone balls — nod­ules — are scat­tered not far from Sherkala. They are found every­where.
