The struc­tures of the his­tor­i­cal bazaar in Tabriz, which well reflects the tra­di­tion­al com­mer­cial and cul­tur­al sys­tem of Iran, are locat­ed in the province of East Azer­bai­jan in north­west­ern Iran.

The bazaar in Tabriz was com­mer­cial­ly one of the most impor­tant cen­ters, par­tic­u­lar­ly when Tabriz became the cap­i­tal of Iran dur­ing the reign of the Safavid mon­archs in the 13th cen­tu­ry. It remained pros­per­ous until the end of the 18th cen­tu­ry, with the expan­sion of Ottoman pow­er.
