This park is one of the last major rem­nants of the pri­ma­ry trop­i­cal for­est of West Africa. Its rich nat­ur­al flo­ra, and threat­ened mam­mal species such as the pygmy hip­popota­mus and 11 species of mon­keys, are of great sci­en­tif­ic inter­est.
