A large lagoon locat­ed in the Rhone Riv­er delta region, south­ern France, west­ern part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Its area is 65 square kilo­me­ters, and the depth does not reach even two meters. It is believed that even dur­ing the times of Roman rule in Gaul, this lake was already a pop­u­lar place for fish­ing. Since 1972, it has been part of the Camar­gue Nation­al Park, cre­at­ed to pro­tect the salt marsh­es of this area and the adja­cent marine zone.
