Locat­ed in north­ern Min­neso­ta, just south of the Cana­di­an bor­der, Voyageurs Nation­al Park is the def­i­n­i­tion of a ‘hid­den gem’ because of its rel­a­tive inac­ces­si­bil­i­ty, it’s also one of the least-vis­it­ed nation­al parks in the coun­try. Incred­i­bly, over a third of the park is made up of water; 84,000 out of 218,000 acres are water­ways. These pro­vide access to 655 miles of pris­tine, unspoiled shore­line and more than 500 islands. Rent a canoe and spend a night under the stars at one of the boat-access tent sites on the Lake Kabetoga­ma penin­su­la – you might even catch the auro­ra bore­alis.
