The dis­trict of Yaren is Nauru’s largest com­mu­ni­ty and the clos­est thing the island has to an offi­cial cap­i­tal. The island’s police and earth sta­tions, admin­is­tra­tion offices, par­lia­ment house, and only inter­na­tion­al air­port are all sit­u­at­ed here. In 2003, Yaren’s entire pop­u­la­tion was no more than 1,100 peo­ple.
